Where I come from (Scotland), the term ‘nigger brown’ is still in common usage so I wouldn’t say this is particularly a ‘bad translation’ problem.

David, certainly. However this happened in the United States and the word is very significant, especially to the African American community.
Having sad that, in the context of where this took place, the translation is particularly ‘bad’. I’m just glad that it wasn’t done intentionally.
